The Pelicans will start the 2021-22 season without Zion Williamson.
On Thursday, Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin announced that Williamson will be reevaluated in a couple of weeks and that he “does not have a set schedule” for his return. Williamson is coming off a foot injury suffered during the offseason.
David Griffin says that Zion Williamson said surgeons reviewed the scans and that he is cleared for the next step.
“There is no fixed timeline” for getting back into the action of the game. The next scans will be 2 to 2.5 weeks.
Zion will not be on the court for the first week of games.

Timeline of Zion Williamson’s injury
It was revealed during the team’s press day that Williamson underwent surgery to repair a broken right foot during the offseason. Williamson is said to have suffered the injury before the start of the 2021 NBA Summer League.
The Pelicans were initially hopeful that his timeline would “get him back on the court in time for the regular season.”
According to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez, the Pelicans will be able to take the next step in Williamson’s recovery process when he rescanns in a couple of weeks.
When could Zion Williamson come back from injury?
The Pelicans open the 2021-22 regular season in October. 20 at home against the 76ers. They will then take a three-game road trip before returning to New Orleans to play the Hawks on October 1. 27. A two-week timeline puts Williamson in danger of missing all five games.
