The Argentine market for new vehicles grew by 11.5% year-on-year in 2021 to 381,777 registrations. There is a changing of the guard at the top of the brand charts: Toyota shoots up 68.4% to go from a 12.7% share to 19.2%, easily dominating the rankings. Leader last year, Volkswagen (-1%) goes against the positive market and drops almost two percentage points of share from 16.7% to 14.8%. Fiat (+ 33.6%) advances one place to land on the third step of the podium with a participation of 13.2% compared to 11% a year ago. It displaces Renault (-17.6%) in free fall. Ford (-9.6%) overtakes Chevrolet (-22.7%) for 5th place while Peugeot (+ 23.7%) is very dynamic but remains at # 7. Nissan (+ 25.9%) and Jeep (+ 14.9%) also outperformed the rest of the Top 10, while Citroen (+ 8%) lagged slightly behind. Beyond the Top 10, Iveco (+ 71.6%), Mercedes (+ 49.4%), Scania (+ 22.2%) and DS (+ 20.9%) shine.

In terms of model, we also have a new leader this year: the Fiat Cronos (+126.1%) more than doubling its sales year-over-year to easily top the charts with just under 10% share. This impressive success is due in part to tighter government restrictions on imported vehicles this year. The Cronos is produced locally, in Córdoba. A leader for the past three years, the Toyota Hilux (+ 42%) is relegated to second place despite improving its share to 7.1% from 5.6%. Similarly, the VW Amarok (+ 44.3%) and the Peugeot 208 (+ 50.7%) make giant leaps to gain two places to No. 3 and three ranks to No. 4, respectively. The VW Gol (+ 4.5%) lagged the market and fell one place to No. 5. The Toyota Corolla (+ 110.5%) rose 17 places to 9, the Toyota Yaris (+ 78.6%) rose 9 to 8, the Toyota Etios (+ 41.3%) rose two to 7 and the Ford Ranger (+ 31.4%) remains in sixth place. The big loser of the year is the Chevrolet Onix (-47.5%) falling into free fall similar to its Brazilian report card and losing 8 places to fall to # 10. The Toyota Corolla Cross (# 23) is the launch 2021 bestseller above the VW Taos (# 39) and Ford Bronco (# 50).
