After a series of delays for the Mercedes-AMG One supercar, there will be one more delay. But it finally comes. Coach It first reported Thursday that the One will arrive in mid-2022 and the brand confirmed to Roadshow that production will begin next year for the first deliveries.
The supercar, which has a powertrain derived from Mercedes-AMG Formula One racing car, it has been a great task to develop. Since we’re talking about a 1,000 horsepower engine that was only designed for the track, preparing the powertrain for street and regulatory use posed numerous challenges. That includes the fact that this engine is meant to idle at around 5,000 rpm. The engineers needed the 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid V6 to idle at around 1,200 rpm, and according to the report, this was a major challenge for the project engineers.
After four years of troubleshooting, production of the 275-unit car will begin. Of course, they are all sold out, even if you have millions to spare. But for those lucky customers, they finally get an amazing car after four years.
