The African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) continues with four matches involving teams such as Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Gambia, Malawi and Comoros on Friday.
The Group B and C teams played their second round matches at Stade Kouekong and Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, respectively.
In Group B, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, who are the number 1 ranked African country, battled against Guinea led by Naby Keita.
The Guineans who had the likes of Amadou Diawara and Ilaix Moriba in their squad were by far the better team as they drew goalless against Senegal on Friday.
The tie means that both countries have 4 points from their first two games.
In the other Group B game, Malawi came from a goal down to beat their South African neighbour, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe scored the first goal of the match through Ishmael Wadi.
But Gabadinho Mhango scored twice to secure a victory for Malawi and a probable ticket to the next round as one of the biggest losers.
In Group C, Morocco made it two out of two with an emphatic 2-0 victory over Comoros.
Selim Amallah and substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the goals to give Morocco a ticket to the next round.
In the other Group C match, Gabon scored a late equalizer to deny Ghana their first win of the tournament.
Andrew Ayew scored the season contender’s goal to put Ghana ahead in the first half, but substitute Jim Allevinah scored in the 88th minute to give Gabon a 1-1 draw.
Gabon played the match without their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was left out of the squad to face Ghana with suspected heart problems.
The Arsenal striker has recently recovered from Covid-19.
Morocco go through to the next round with their 6 points, Gabon also have a sure place in the next round, while Ghana have everything on the line when they face Comoros in their last game.
