Fantasy QB Rankings Week 5: Who to start, sit as a quarterback in fantasy football

We’re starting to get a clear picture of who will be stable producers and which defenses are likely to give up a lot of fantasy points to quarterbacks. We now have a month of data and stats, so hopefully our Week 5 fantasy quarterback rankings will be our best yet, and a certain preseason sleeper joining the mix helps us get off to a good start. foot.

Trey Lance (@ Cardinals) will undoubtedly be one of the most watched quarterbacks this week. We tested his lead after he replaced Jimmy Garoppolo (calf) in the second half of last week when Lance had 157 passing yards, 41 rushing yards, two TDs and a two-point conversion. His overall performance was merely average, with most of his production coming on ruined hedge and junk time, but Lance can still rack up points in a hurry. The Cardinals have a statistically below-average matchup and did a good job holding Matthew Stafford until he scored a late TD in trash time last week, so we don’t have Lance in our top 12, but he certainly has that. Kind of backwards if things work out. He’s certainly a must-start in the two-quarterback / superflex leagues.

Jalen Hurts (@ Panthers) has continued to party in garbage time, but will play one of the toughest defenses in the league on the road in Week 5. Russell Wilson (against Rams) in a short week could have a negative game . too, but it’s almost impossible to bank. The same is not true for Hurts, but he has a similar advantage, so let him bench at your own risk despite being ranked 16th on our list.

Some historically middle quarterbacks have juicy matchups this week. Kirk Cousins (vs. Lions) has a chance to drop another 30 burger if this game stays closed; Daniel Jones (@Cowboys) can drop a nice fancy stat line, whether the game is closed or not, and maybe Sam Darnold (against Eagles) can continue his strong start to the season. Joe Burrow (against Green Bay) will get his first chance to face Aaron Rodgers, and this could be a shootout in Cincinnati, so we think Burrow is a QB1 this week.

Rookies Mac Jones (@ Texas), Trevor Lawrence (@ Titans), and Zach Wilson (against the Falcons) have good matchups, so consider them at stake in two-quarterback / superflex leagues. Wilson plays at 9:30 am ET in London, so maybe he’ll shine while no one’s watching. How nice would it be to sleep in on Sunday, get out of bed, and see you have three touchdowns? It’s been terrible so far, but anything can happen against the Falcons.

Matt Ryan (vs. Jets) looks juicy on paper; However, the jets have been solid against the quarterbacks. Heading into Week 4, they were allowing the second fewest fantasy points to the position and held Ryan Tannehill to a TD. You might think this is just because teams have dropped them, but when you dive deeper their defense hasn’t been that bad. Baker Mayfield (@ Chargers) and Teddy Bridgewater (@ Steelers) have both exceeded expectations in a few weeks, but both are on the road with very tough matchups. There’s a chance Bridgewater won’t play, as he’s dealing with a concussion, but Drew Lock certainly wouldn’t be in the game, either. Justin Herbert (vs. Browns) and Derek Carr (vs. Bears) have been starters most weeks, but their matchups make it hard to trust them.

This week he seems to have a lot of value in the middle and late parts of qualifying. Some guys who go unnoticed have solid matchups, while some of the studs find themselves in tough situations. Most of the time, you still want to go with the studs, but there is nothing wrong with considering all your options at the quarterback position. This will be the last week for a time with no rest weeks, so going forward, your options will be more limited. Enjoy this while you can.

Qualification: We will update these QB rankings as needed throughout the week, so check back for the latest changes and analysis.
