The St. Louis Cardinals stunned the MLB community by winning 17 straight games in September to earn a wild-card spot in the National League playoffs, but ultimately fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in that game.
Apparently that loss was enough for the Cardinals to go in a different direction.
For him MLB website and ESPN / Associated Press , the Cardinals fired manager Mike Shildt on Thursday.
“While these decisions are difficult, both parties agreed that philosophical differences related to the direction of the organization led us to this conclusion,” St. Louis president of baseball operations John Mozeliak said in a prepared statement. “With only one year left on Mike’s contract, the best thing for all of us was that we address this now.”
Shildt put pen to paper in a three-year deal in 2019.
