Canadiens’ Samuel Montembeault starting on the net Thursday vs. Sabres

Goalkeeper Samuel Montembeault will make his regular season debut for the Montreal Canadiens when he starts Thursday night in Buffalo against the Sabers.

Jake Allen started in Montreal’s 2-1 loss in the season opener in Toronto against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

The Habs claimed Montembeault from the Florida Panthers waivers earlier this month.

Montembeault, 24, posted an 8-4-1 record with an average of 2.86 goals against and a .898 save percentage in 13 games with the AHL’s Syracuse Crunch in 2020-21.

The Bécancour, What. The native has an NHL career record of 9-8-3 with a GAA of 3.20 and a .892 save percentage in 25 games.

Montembeault was selected in the third round (77 overall) by the Panthers in the 2015 NHL Draft.
