In the marquee match of the 12th round of the South American World Cup qualifiers, Brazil and their superstar Neymar will face Luis Suárez and Uruguay at the Amazonas Stadium in Manaus. But teams enter the game in very different places when it comes to their luck in qualifying.
Brazil sits comfortably in first place with an unbeaten record and a six-point lead over Argentina. He has the best defensive record of the tournament and has yet to concede a goal at home. That’s the prospect facing a Uruguayan side coming off a 3-0 beating at the hands of Lionel Messi and Argentina just four days earlier.
Uruguay enters the game in fifth place in the standings and is discarding every point it can get to get into the first four places that will guarantee a direct ticket to Qatar 2022. It will close the calendar year with a home game against Argentina and a trip to Bolivia, the latter that lately is proving problematic for several teams.

77 min .: Luis Suárez scores! It was a free kick and he finishes it off with relative ease. With 13 minutes to go, there is still hope. First, a break to hydrate and a chat with the coach. That was just the fourth goal conceded by Brazil during qualifying.

71 min .: SUBS – Fabinho and Raphinha leave, in their place Douglas Luiz and Everton Ribeiro. Equal subtitles.
66 min .: SUB – Uruguay brings Facundo Torres for Matias Vecino. Moments later, Brazilian forward Antony was making the defensive play deep down on his side. If Brazil’s attackers defend like this, who has a chance against them?
65 min .: And the two substitutes for Brazil combine in the area and almost score. Antony hits the ball to Gabigol, whose first shot is overturned over the bar by Muslera. Great savings.
61 min .: SUBS – With the result out of reach, the submarines begin. Gabriel Jesús does not get his goal and leaves for Gabigol. Lucas Paqueta also receives applause with Antony entering. Those are some quality subs to bring. It will be a long 30 minutes for Uruguay.
58 min .: Goal Brazil! In five passes, Brazil went from their own penalty area to Uruguay’s. Neymar calmly fed Raphinha and buried her. Fantastic move, fantastic ending. Brazil has been brilliant.
51 min .: Again Gabriel Jesus! His companions are trying to find him, but Muslera denied it again. It was a predictable shot and Muslera read it all the way.

46 min .: The second part is underway and Uruguay makes three changes: Cáceres, Piquerez and Torreira replace De La Cruz, Viña and Nández. No changes for Brazil.
Half time: Brazil 2, Uruguay 0
Halftime: Deserved leadership for Brazil. Whenever their attacking stars were on the ball, Neymar, Raphinha and Lucas Paqueta, they simply danced alongside the Uruguayans. They are on another skill level and it shows. The goals were examples of that superiority. Uruguay needs a miracle to get something out of this game.
43 min .: Fabinho gets a yellow and concedes a free kick to Uruguay. Brazil handles the danger.
39 min .: What an opportunity for Brazil! Raphinha is putting on a show with Neymar. The two combine in the area and Uruguayan Muslera needs to make a save on a point-blank shot from Neymar or it could have been 3-0.
28 min .: Paqueta having himself a game. He faces a defender and his ball in the area goes to Fabinho, who shoots very high.
18 min .: Another goal for Brazil! It is Raphinha. He’s on the last right stick to pick up the pieces on a shot that is saved and places him home for the easy ending. Brazil hardly sweating.
10 minutes.: Goal Brazil! It’s Neymar! What a goal it was. Fred floats the ball in the penalty area for Neymar’s run. The PSG man rounds off the goalkeeper and shoots the ball past the waiting defenders on the line. Goal well worked.
7th minute: Neymar falls outside the penalty area, but the referee was in no mood to shoot a penalty. Neymar did not complain much about that.
4th min .: Calm the start of this match. The teams are not attacking each other yet. The crowd doesn’t like it. They are waiting for the players to take the first step.
1st min .: After a moment of silence for the victims of COVID-19, we leave.

Choose: Brazil -1 Asian Handicap (-115)
Although Uruguay had their chances against Argentina on Sunday, the 3-0 loss was a true reflection of the difference in talent between the two teams. It will be the same case in Manaus, and while the result may not be that uneven, Brazil should at least be a better goal. Brazil also have the best team defense in the tournament – three goals allowed in 10 games – and it won’t be easily scored.
The Asian Handicap Brazil -1 may not be very adventurous, but neither is the game that we will see between these two teams. It’s decent protection if the Selecao have a day off in front of goal.
