DHAKA: Giving a stern warning to perpetrators of community violence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that anyone involved in the attacks on Hindu temples and Durga puja the places of Cumilla will not be freed regardless of the religion to which they belong.
“The incidents in Cumilla are being thoroughly investigated. No one will be saved. No matter what religion they belong to. They will be persecuted and punished,” he said on Thursday, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
The prime minister made the remarks while exchanging greetings with people from the Hindu community during an event at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka on the occasion of Durga Puja. He joined the program from Ganabhaban via video conference.
Calling the incident of vandalization of temples in Cumilla as “very regrettable,” he said that those who cannot win the trust and confidence of the people and have no ideology can carry out such attacks.
“We are getting a lot of information. We will definitely track down who carried out the attacks … This is the age of technology,” he added.

Similar incidents also occurred in different districts of the country on Wednesday night and Thursday, prompting the government to deploy Bangladesh Border Guard soldiers to 22 districts along with additional law enforcement officials.
There have been reports of several people killed during the clashes in Chandpur, while dozens of people have been injured in the clashes or arrested by law enforcement officers in various districts so far.
