In preparation for his character’s revenge arc on the series, “The World Among Us,” Alden Richards had to make some lifestyle changes to ensure that his physical appearance adequately reflected the hardships and injustices Louie Asunción faced. .
“Physically, I had to change my lifestyle. I lost weight … Now I exercise five times a week and make sure to maintain a healthy diet. Games don’t keep me up all night anymore, ”he said in a virtual conference call for his primetime soap opera, which returned to air on November 22, after a three-month offseason.
There was pressure, Alden admitted, because he had long been promoting Louie’s transformation:
From an orphan tech genius, simple and hardworking, he rose through the ranks to become an executive at his foster mentor’s phone company. But when he is framed by a rival for a crime he did not commit, he serves a prison sentence and eventually emerges as a vindictive, cutting-edge tech leader who is willing to take what he legitimately believes to be.
“We promised these changes… When you commit something to the audience, you will do anything to bring justice to the character. I kept working on my character during the breaks, ”he added. “It’s true that if you look at my character, I looked different in each of the three phases of the story.”
He even used his own clothes, cars and accessories for Louie’s rise in the world of technology. “Akin ‘yung ibang mga gamit. I really committed to that. Everything I could do to help, I did. The locked tape setting helped me focus. And I hope it becomes common practice in the future because it allows the program more time to prepare. “
Louie’s current personality couldn’t be more different than Alden’s. So how does a person who “rarely gets angry and upset in real life” portray someone so stubborn and volatile?
“I have been preparing for a role like this for a long time. I was finally able to dust off the character that I had created in my head, inspired by the shows and movies I’ve seen, for his show, “he said.
Also, you can’t always rely on personal experience to shape your character.
“You have to study. I think that, as actors, we have to work hard if we want to be effective. I agree that personal life and past experiences can be important factors in playing your character,” he said. “But acting is acting. It is up to you where you get the nuances and motivations of emotions. “
While the series has been well received by viewers, criticism here and there is inevitable. That’s the nature of social media, Alden said. But the 29-year-old star and her co-actors choose to take it easy.
“The reality now, especially with social media, is that everyone will have an opinion. As creators, we use it as inspiration to improve our projects for the people who support us … But at the end of the day, we know in ourselves that we did a great job, “said Alden.
