‘SNL’ Car Thief Sketch Shows Saving Manuals Can Save Your Car

It is not news that the number of cars available with manual transmission it has declined, and a big reason is that people are simply not learning how to handle them. Still, it is a skill worth learning. Our number one reason would be because it’s fun, but you never know when you’ll need to do it in a hurry. Maybe you have to drive a friend’s old gearshift car in an emergency, or maybe it’s a really cool car and they’re giving you a chance to test it out. Or in the case of this Saturday night live sketch, maybe you’re trying to steal a vintage Lamborghini.

Yes, in the sketch titled “Car Heist”, the stereotype “Gone in 60 seconds“Hollywood-style heist goes horribly wrong when the helmsman is completely confused by the three pedals and the lens’s locked gear stick Lamborghini diablo. And with two minutes to go before the doors close again, your sponsor’s attempts to teach you by radio are going as well as you’d expect, as you have to get used to using both of them feet and having to learn what a clutch is.

It is a situation that anyone who has learned to use a manual or who has helped teach others will have fun. I had an internship with Hagerty Insurance several years ago, and helped with their program by teaching young drivers how to drive vintage, enthusiastic cars. If I only had two minutes to teach someone to drive and had to do it over the phone, I think things would have turned out fine too. So take a look at it and have a little laugh. And then if you haven’t learned yet, find someone to teach you.
