MANILA, Philippines – Despite a shaky start on the second day of pool play, the Philippine teams’ title retention bids in the 3×3 event of the 31st Southeast Asian Games are still alive.
The Gilas men settled for no. 2 on Saturday afternoon after losing to host Vietnam, 21-14, in their final assignment in the men’s exhibition at the Thanh Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi.
The women’s team, meanwhile, will enter the Final Four as an inspired group after escaping Malaysia, 13-11, earlier. He finished the preliminaries with a 3-3 record.
The 4-2 men’s 3×3 team, led by professional Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, will face Thailand in a rematch of their semifinal encounter during the latest edition of the biennial meeting held in Manila.
The Gilas women, led by striker Janine Pontejos and decorated Afril Bernardino, will also play Thailand, a team they lost to last Friday.
