The Philadelphia 76ers are battling major health issues early in the 2021-22 season, and superstar great Joel Embiid is last on the bench.
The team has announced that Embiid has tested positive for COVID, joining Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle and Isaiah Joe in the league’s health and safety protocols.
Despite the growing injury list, the Sixers have been impressive to start the season, going 8-2 entering a home game against the New York Knicks.

How long will Embiid be gone?
Initially, Embiid was scheduled to miss the only game against New York with a straight game scheduled against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Instead, Embiid could miss multiple games as he awaits back-to-back negative tests to pass the league’s health and safety protocols.

November 8th: Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers reveals that Embiid is suffering from symptoms after contracting the virus.
“He’s not doing very well, struggling with it, like Tobias,” Rivers said before the game.
The game against New York will mark the fifth straight game lost for Harris.
November 8th: Embiid was included in the injury report due to health and safety protocols.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the positive test.
