Hannah Rankin retains WBA and IBO titles against Alejandra Ayala | boxing news

Hannah Rankin defended her WBA and IBO super welterweight titles following a 10th-round knockout victory against Alejandra Ayala.

Rankin developed as the fight went on, before connecting well in the final round and causing the stoppage.

The Scottish victory raises the possibility that she will enter the ring with Natasha Jonas.

Speaking before the Rankin fight, Jonas said sky sports that she would be watching closely, and Rankin had also said that he had his own eyes in a unification fight.

“We are waiting to see the outcome of his fight,” Jonas said.. “The qualifying fight is a fight that we both want, and we both believe we can win, so these are exciting times.

“The whole point of moving up the weight divisions was to give me options and I think I have that now.”

Rankin fought Ayala in front of a crowd of 4,500 in Glasgow, a “homecoming fight” as Jonas called it, and that’s something the 37-year-old would like.

“I would do it [fight Rankin] anywhere. The idea is to do it, maybe as a homecoming for me in Liverpool.

“But to be honest, I don’t really care where I have it. A fight is a fight, it doesn’t make any difference.”

“I’ve been to people’s backyards before, and it doesn’t make a difference to me.”
