Somehow, we’re already in double-digit weeks, and the fantasy football playoffs will be here before you know it. Whether you’re trying to stay at the top of your league’s standings, struggling to stay in the playoff race, or just playing spoiler, it’s always important to decide who to start in the fantasy’s highest-scoring position. Use our Week 10 Fantasy QB Rankings to help you with those hard-to-start, sit-down calls.
Tom Brady (@ Washington) is back from goodbye, so those who had to broadcast a QB last week can breathe easy. Jared Goff (@ Steelers) and maybe Geno Smith (vs. Packers) are back, but Taylor Heinicke (vs. Buccaneers is the only broadcast option worthwhile among players who returned from a bye week. Joe Burrow, Justin Fields, Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor are heading into halftime, so it’s generally an easy week on that front. If Russell Wilson (finger) spells Smith again, this week he’ll get even better.
Jalen Hurts (@ Broncos) and Justin Herbert (vs. Vikings) appear to be the only genuine studs with tough matchups. It hurts is essentially a must start, but realistically, you might find a better option than Herbert, who has been a bit inconsistent lately.
Most owners will survive with a single fantasy stud in a goodbye (Burrow), but if you’re someone who chooses to broadcast every week, your best options are Carson Wentz (vs. Jaguars), Heinicke (@ Tampa Bay), Matt Ryan (@ Dallas) and Mac Jones (vs. Browns).
However, Wentz’s ownership is increasing, so it could be unreachable. Ryan’s ownership is 55 percent, so he’s in the same boat. Heinicke and Jones are the most realistic options in all of the leagues, and while the showdown isn’t fantastic, Tua Tagovailoa (against Ravens) can also be considered if he’s returned from his finger injury. He attempted 42 passes / game in his first three weeks back from his rib injury, so he was able to have a good day due to volume. For what it’s worth, Ben Roethlisberger (vs. Lions) has a good matchup at home, but we understand if you think your ceiling is too low.
We’ve called up Trevor Lawrence (@ Colts) and Sam Darnold (@ Cardinals) at times when our backs have been against the wall at QB, but can we really trust any of those guys on the road against talented defenders? In preseason, we probably would have laughed at the idea of opening Mac Jones over Lawrence, but here we are.
All in all, it’s just a strange week for the middle of qualifying. Simply put, studs have great matchups and streamers don’t. If you don’t have one of the posts, you can survive, but these numbers are one of the hardest weeks to do so.
Be sure to monitor the latest on Wilson (finger) and Aaron Rodgers (reserve / COVID). Wilson isn’t expected to return yet, but he could. Rodgers’ status will likely be in question until the end of the week, but he’s obviously a must-start against Seattle if he plays. Also, prepare to jump on Taysom Hill (@ Titans) if he’s named New Orleans starter. It would have far more advantages than Trevor Siemian thanks to its solid hurried ground.
