To celebrate 55 years of AMG, Mercedes-Benz is launching a pair of special edition models from its range of compact performance cars.
Mercedes Benz has announced Edition 55 versions of the 2022 Mercedes-AMG A45 S and Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S it will hit Australian showrooms before the end of 2022.
Based on the standard cars’ regular ’45 S’ mechanical package, both will be powered by an unchanged engine. 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol enginequalified in 310kW other 500Nmdriving via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to AMG’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.
Edition 55 touches for the new variants include lower door decals with the traditional AMG logo at the front, faded into the AMG diamond logo at the rear. A set of 19-inch titanium gray cross-spoke forged alloy wheels fill the arches, with Edition 55 laurel wreath center caps.
Exterior paint options are limited to Cosmos Black Metallic or Digital White Metallic.
Externally, Edition 55 models feature either the AMG Night Package or Night II Package, with black finishes on the rear badging, window trim, front splitter, mirror caps and air intake grilles. Black chrome covers the exhaust tips and grille inserts.
As part of the included AMG aerodynamic package, the cars will also be equipped with a rear spoiler (a lip on the LACor tall in the A class), a larger front splitter, front bumper flics and ‘dummy’ air vents and on the rear bumper diffuser fins.
These also have a black package, however the images provided show just the Cosmos Black finish, minimizing visual impact.
Hidden from view, owners will also enjoy a silver fuel tank with AMG branding. Mercedes-Benz also wants to include an AMG-branded interior car cover, adorned with a silver AMG logo.
Inside, Edition 55 models feature black and red leather interior trim. Illuminated AMG sill slats with red lighting, an Edition 55 ingot on the AMG Performance Dinamica steering wheel (suede look) and Edition 55 embroidery in red on the floor mats complete the package.
The AMG A45 S and CLA45 S Edition 55 models join a variety of 55th anniversary models, including less powerful A35 and CLA45 models at the lower end of the range, and a flagship G63 Edition 55 positioned as a halo model. .
Arrival time for the Edition 55 range is set for late 2022, with Mercedes-Benz Australia keeping prices up its sleeve until closer to launch.
